Vaginal Cosmetic Surgery
Labiaplasty Surgery
Labiaplasty, or labia reduction and shaping, is becoming more popular as women are beginning to realize that there is a solution to their concerns in the vaginal area. A labiaplasty is a cosmetic procedure on the labia minora and majora. This procedure is generally done to make the outer area of the vagina more symmetrical, smaller or to correct irregularities in shape. Many women’s self-esteem is intimately tied to the way they view themselves. Many women feel uncomfortable, embarrassed, or irritated when wearing tight clothing, having sexual relations, or exercising. Other women just want to look “prettier”. A labiaplasty could be the answer to this problem. Labiaplasties are often done for women who are seeking an improvement in the way they look.
Labiaplasty is a quick and simple procedure that is very effective at addressing various concerns that women have about their labia. Women may choose to have a labiaplasty performed by Dr. Michael Spindel for the following reasons:
- Appearance due to the size, discoloration, or length
- Pain, pulling, discomfort, or irritation during intercourse
- Pain, pulling, discomfort, and irritation during physical activities
About Labiaplasty Surgery
A labiaplasty is usually performed to alleviate a medical condition or for aesthetic reasons. Labiaplasty is a relatively simple surgical procedure that reduces the size of the outer labia and/or the inner labia to make them more symmetrical, smaller or to correct irregularities in shape. Incisions are made on the inside surfaces of the labia. The excessive protuberant area is removed and the remaining edge is over sewn with a running suture. The sutures that are used are absorbed into the body so there is no need to take them out. The surgery typically takes around 30 minutes to perform, and most patients experience a very fast recovery, returning to work within a day or two. You are instructed to refrain from sexual intercourse for 3-4 weeks however.
