Breast Reduction

What causes excess breast tissue on men?

A variety of lifestyle choices may prompt the male chest to develop excess breast tissue. Sometimes, excess breast tissue may the result of a hormonal imbalance or certain medication or steroids.

How Male Breast Reduction is Performed

During the gynecomastia procedure, Dr. Spindel removes excess tissue. After the ideal size and shape is achieved, the nipple is repositioned, if necessary to an ideal location. The exact techniques chosen for surgery depend on your individual degree of correction needed. Most of our patients are extremely happy with their results.

Your Consultation with Dr. Michael Spindel

During your consultation, Dr. Spindel will talk with you about your expectations, whether you are a good candidate for male breast reduction, and what to expect during and after surgery, including potential side effects.

Male Breast Reduction Recovery

Rest and relaxation are the recommended course of action after surgery, and you will return to our office for a follow-up appointment within a few days. All male breast reduction patients will need to wear a compression garment to minimize swelling and bruising, usually recommended for four to six weeks. You are encouraged to avoid strenuous physical activity for about three to five weeks, although you may return to work in three to five days if your job does not require excessive physical activity.

How will I look after male breast reduction?

When you have healed from your surgery and swelling has dissipated, your chest will appear flatter and more firm. The more masculine look of your chest should be long lasting as long as you adhere to a healthy diet and exercise.
