Botox®

Botox injections are used to reduce signs of aging. Botox was one of the first facial rejuvenation treatments to utilize botulinum toxin. Botulinum toxin temporarily paralyzes the muscles leaving a more youthful appearance. Botox injections are primarily known for reducing facial wrinkles, but they are also used to treat different conditions such as: reoccurring migraines, arthritis, overactive bladders and muscle spasms.

Many Men and Women use Botox Injections (Botulinum toxin) to treat:

  • Forehead furrows
  • Skin bands on neck
  • Frown lines
  • Crows feet

Facial movement such as chewing, frowning, squinting eyes, or smiling can lead to signs of aging. Wrinkles make it hard for women and men to feel confident and may cause self-consciousness. Wrinkles can make someone appear exhausted or even angry even when they are not. Botox injections are one of the fastest and safest treatments to reduce wrinkles without having surgery.

There are two types of botulinum toxin, type A and type B. Both types are purified substances, obtained from bacteria. These Injection types are used to block nerve signals in the muscles, which then paralyzes the muscle so unwanted facial wrinkles no longer develop.

Botulinum toxin is sometimes used with other cosmetic skin treatments such as chemical peels, dermal fillers or microdermabrasion to continue to improve the rejuvenation process. This combination of skin treatments can help prevent the development of new facial lines and wrinkles.

How Botox Works

A thin needle is used to inject small amounts of botulinum toxin into specific muscles. These injections will weaken the wrinkle-producing muscles, which will preserve the natural facial expressions.

Botox injections take less than 15 minutes. The extent of facials wrinkles will determine the number of injections needed. No anesthesia is needed; our patients are expected to resume normal activities after the treatment. The results will become more noticeable within a few days, but can possibly take a week to see the full result. These results usually last about three or four months. It is important to make regular follow-up appointments, in order to maintain the effects of Botox.

Risks that can occur from Botox Injections

It is extremely important NOT to rub or massage recently treated areas after having Botox injections. From rubbing the skin after this treatment, it can cause the botulinum toxin to move to different muscles on the face. If this occurs, there could be temporary facial paralysis or facial drooping.

Botox is usually safe procedure, but possible complications can include:

  • Facial Paralysis
  • Facial Dropping

  • Nausea
  • Headaches

  • Redness
  • flu-like symptoms

  • Pain
  • Bruising around the injection site
